Hebrew Literature - The Lord Denounces Injustice

THE LORD DENOUNCES INJUSTICE
Amos 5:11-12,21-24

Forasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor,
And take exactions from him of wheat:
Ye have built houses of hewn stone,
But ye shall not dwell in them;
Ye have planted pleasant vineyards,
But ye shall not drink the wine thereof.

 For I know how manifold are your transgressions,
And how mighty are your sins-ye that afflict the just,
That take a bribe, and that turn aside the needy in the gate from their right.

 “I hate, I despise your religious festivals;
    your assemblies are a stench to me.
 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
    I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
    I will have no regard for them.
 Away with the noise of your songs!
    I will not listen to the music of your harps.
 But let justice roll on like a river,
    righteousness like a never-failing stream!

(American Standard Version)
